suggests that it works fine on quite a lot of 5.10.0 perls, given the XS
stash is the default these days.

Perhaps you should narrow down the failure condition a little more - if it's
specific to how your 5.10 is built the difference between your build and the
working ones may provide a clue as to what needs fixing.
